- Mark,
-
- I have a program (PC/DOS) that sends CW at various speeds and tones. It
- can generate random groups or read from ASCII files. But, I need to
- see if it is public domain before I try to get it to you.
-
- As for advice: practice practice practice! Spend most of your time
- learning how to receive CW, sending will come much more easily. Try to
- stay away from "seeing" CW (i.e. ..._ ..._ ) to avoid double translation
- (I learned CW when I was 11 or 12 this way... took a long time to unlearn
- it!).
-
- I will check on the program and get back to you...
-
- Best regards,
-

-
- Hi Greg, here's my $0.02 worth... I don't think a machine can copy CW
- as well as a human _YET_ but it won't be long. I think what Dan was
- saying is there are digital modes that can be copied under the noise.
- I have seen AMTOR copied when I couldn't even hear the signal. There
- are digital modes that are superior to CW and will get through when CW
- cannot. Human ears cannot even hear CDMA and yet many conversations are
- possible _WITHIN THE SAME SPECTRUM_.
-
- Human beings can climb mountains better than any land-locked machine
- and mountain climbing is fun for some people. But they don't give you
- a mountain climbing test for your driver's license.
-
- I encourage everyone to use and enjoy CW like I do. But there are much
- more robust digital modes. If CW were the mode most likely to succeed
- then NASA would use it for deep space probes. CW just does not deserve
- to be the single most important item in obtaining any ham license
- above technician level.
